Frequently asked questions What conditions can Nutritional Therapy help?

By helping the body to become well-nourished and function more optimally, it’s possible to support a wide range of health issues from common complaints such as fatigue, weight gain and skin problems, to more complex conditions such as depression, fertility and diabetes. There is a wealth of scientific evidence to support the success of nutritional approaches in addressing many health issues and, unlike pharmaceutical drugs, nutrients from food have significantly less side effects.

Will I have to follow any strict diets or difficult regimes?

At The Food Remedy, our goal is to design a programme that is practical and achievable for you. So we won’t ever recommend anything that you feel isn’t going to be easy to accommodate. We believe in whole foods, so we do not ever recommend fad diets or difficult regimes.

How long does an initial consultation last?

An initial consultation lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on the complexity of your case. This can be done in person, on Skype or on FaceTime,

What are follow up consultations?

Once you have been on your personalised programme for four weeks, another appointment is recommended (this can be in person, or over the phone if easier). This allows us to monitor your progress and discuss and further steps which need to be taken. The Food Remedy aims to get you to a point where you achieve your health goals and have gathered sufficient information from me to manage yourself going forward – this may happen after two or three consultations or can take longer, depending on your needs.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance?

After you have made a booking, we will email or post you a questionnaire and food diary to fill out. If you are taking any medication or supplements, or have any test results relating to your condition (e.g. from your GP or a hospital), we would ask you to bring these with you to our consultation.

How do I book an appointment?

Call or email us to arrange a time. We see clients Monday to Friday and do have some evening appointment slots when day times are difficult.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We just ask that you give at least 48 hours’ notice; otherwise a cancellation fee of 50% applies

How much does a consultation cost?

The cost for an initial consultation is £125.

Follow-up consultations are charged £75

Weight loss weekly consultations are sold in monthly packages starting from £250

These fees exclude tests that may be beneficial or any recommended supplements.

Do you recommend home tests?

At The Food Remedy we have teamed up with leading diagnostic laboratories and are able to offer a range of diagnostic tests.  These well established laboratory tests can help identify the underlying reason behind your health problems.

Laboratory Tests are sometimes needed to assess nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, toxin levels, allergies, liver and gut function.  Some examples of commonly used tests are:

Stool Analysis: this reveals how well you are digesting and absorbing your food, as well as any bacterial, fungal or parasitic infections in the gut.

Hair Mineral Analysis: this measures levels of toxic metals and minerals in the hair, as this reflects levels in the body.

Adrenal Stress: a saliva test which measures levels of stress hormones

Thyroid Hormone:  a urine test which measures levels of thyroid hormones

Female Hormones: various saliva tests which measure female sex hormones throughout the month.

Food Sensitivities: various blood tests which reveal sensitivity to any foods, additives and other substances.

Where possible, we will recommend tests that can be performed by your GP.

These laboratory tests are usually the most accurate way of ensuring the correct treatment for your condition. As a result, we prefer not to suggest any tests before an initial consultation as we have found that many of the home-testing kits that are widely available on the market can give miss-leading results and lead to an unnecessarily restrictive diet

If it is felt that your programme will be more successful with the benefit of a blood, stool or saliva test then they will discuss this at the initial consultation. Fees are generally paid directly to the laboratory. The underlying causes of many different conditions can be detected scientifically by taking a simple and in many cases, non-invasive test, appropriate to your condition.
